Arlene Hostrop, a
Principal at Lumen, Inc., has nearly 20 years consulting and international
business management experience helping companies plan and develop their
strategy, as well as creating and implementing incentives, processes and
programs linked to their strategy to create a long-term sustainable competitive
advantage. She advised national and
international corporations in performance management, implementation, and
strategic change initiatives. Ms. Hostrop has particular expertise in strategy
sessions, metrics development, performance management, and organizational
change. She has developed Balanced Scorecards at the corporate, divisional, and
SBU levels for domestic and international companies. Ms. Hostrop has worked with senior management to articulate their
strategy into a set of cause and effect relationships, identifying performance
drivers or lead indicators to drive strategy throughout their organizations. Ms.
Hostrop has applied these skills across a wide range of products and services in
medium-sized to very large companies in financial services, utilities, consumer
goods, and service industries.
Ms. Hostrop was a Principal with Planning Technologies
Group where she led strategy projects and worked with executives to link their
strategy to their daily management practices to enhance the performance of their
organizations. Ms. Hostrop
conducted a proprietary study for IBM contacting over 30 companies that had
implemented performance measurements to learn best practices across companies. She also managed the design of a computerized strategic planning system. As a Principal, at Symmetrix, Ms. Hostrop developed material to train
consultants in developing performance management systems or “dashboards”. Ms. Hostrop also led an effort to incorporate the use of performance
metrics in decision support tools on the workstations. She was in charge of incorporating their strategic efforts into the
redesign of computer systems which developed new customer service systems. Ms. Hostrop managed international
strategy at Bain & Company projects for Fortune 50 and large multinational
companies. Ms. Hostrop coordinated
discussions between Europe and Australia to link the U. S. strategic objectives
globally and to ensure that performance measurements would be consistent across
countries in order to motivate similar strategic actions. Ms. Hostrop previously worked in international investment banking at
Okasan Securities both on Wall Street and in Tokyo. She evaluated company strategies and synergies companies while
negotiating merger & acquisition projects and joint-venture agreements. She began her career at the Industrial Bank of Japan in Washington, D.C.
Ms. Hostrop earned her M.B.A. from Harvard Business School. She also conducted post-graduate business studies in Japan at
Hitotsubashi University under the auspices of the International Rotary
Foundation. Ms. Hostrop received
her B.S. in International Business and Japanese from Georgetown University. She lived and worked in Japan for eight years and speaks Japanese. Ms.
Hostrop worked on large global projects spanning several countries and traveled
extensively in Asia and Europe.
